The Biggest Race of our Lives
June 30, 2008

A silly bet was made a few weeks ago for a $100 winner take all event between me and Joe “The Business” Matella. The venue, the Butte to Butte on 4th of July.
The mental games have already been going and I have been growing a beard while in training. People have mistaken me for Forrest Gump as I log mile after mile, never stopping, never tiring.
OK, here is the real Tale of the Tape:
JOE: Has been running for months now, timing himself, getting stronger, leaner and fully prepared. His diet is healthy and alcohol intake low to none.
CAM: Has run three times since the bet was made for a total of about 10 miles. Diet and alcohol intake has not changed. 8 years older and one functional knee less, Cam is the underdog for so many reasons.
Intangibles: I grew up running this race and the elders speak to me from below as I run up and down these hills. I have the spirit of Prefontaine coursing through my veins. Erick Liddell once asked…”Where does the strength come from to see the race to the end? From Within.”
My assistant was able to take some footage of Joe training with his running group at the coast…it helps me prepare.
Let’s not forget about some of the other big upsets we’ve seen throughout the years…

Come on down to offer me assistance into the ambulance around mile marker five!

If you run it backwards the bet doesn’t count. I do this all the time.
