The Day before the big Race
July 3, 2008
Inspiration and goosebump levels are high…Legs don’t fail me now.
Tuesday Fun Time Interlude
July 1, 2008
I think it is a good time to take a break and listen to a real happy, happy, joy, joy song!
This is a band I just heard about from Mike B, the Ryan Montbleau Band, who played in Eugene last night and I couldn’t go! Bummer.
Enjoy!
The Biggest Race of our Lives
June 30, 2008

A silly bet was made a few weeks ago for a $100 winner take all event between me and Joe “The Business” Matella. The venue, the Butte to Butte on 4th of July.
The mental games have already been going and I have been growing a beard while in training. People have mistaken me for Forrest Gump as I log mile after mile, never stopping, never tiring.
OK, here is the real Tale of the Tape:
JOE: Has been running for months now, timing himself, getting stronger, leaner and fully prepared. His diet is healthy and alcohol intake low to none.
CAM: Has run three times since the bet was made for a total of about 10 miles. Diet and alcohol intake has not changed. 8 years older and one functional knee less, Cam is the underdog for so many reasons.
Intangibles: I grew up running this race and the elders speak to me from below as I run up and down these hills. I have the spirit of Prefontaine coursing through my veins. Erick Liddell once asked…”Where does the strength come from to see the race to the end? From Within.”
My assistant was able to take some footage of Joe training with his running group at the coast…it helps me prepare.
Let’s not forget about some of the other big upsets we’ve seen throughout the years…

Come on down to offer me assistance into the ambulance around mile marker five!
Best Card Ever Printed
June 25, 2008

This is the most valuable sports card in modern history. 1986-87 Fleer #57 Michael Jordan rookie card.
For only the second time ever with over 4,000 rated, this Jordan RC received the coveted Pristine 10 grade by the Beckett grading service.
When this story went live, there were seven offers submitted to the seller for this card, which currently has a “Buy It Now” price of $150,000.
I once sat in my 8th grade English class and watched a kid open an entire box of this set. He had 9 Michael Jordan rookie cards in that box. I was drooling over them at the time, hoping that he would give me one that I probably would have taped to the front of my 3-ring binder. Little did anyone know, he was holding nearly a million dollars worth of cardboard on his desk that day.
Thanks to Jonathan “Forbes” Young for the tip.
Promises, Promises
June 23, 2008

I put myself “On notice”. Last Friday after attending a very fun 40th Birthday event for Mike H, I went to Natalie and Eric Fritz’s house to hang out with them and Katie. We had a little wine, heard some good tunes and waited for the Mike H after party to begin late in the night. At that moment, I was hyped up and ready to go, I just had to drop Samba off first. As I left them, they wanted to make sure I was coming over. I said “I PROMISE!”. Well, my mouth wrote a check my body couldn’t keep. I took Samba home, which led to me getting on the couch, which led to some quesadillas, which led to some X-Box, which led to bed. I WANTED to get the motivation to go, but it was way past my bedtime. They deserve a public apology and I won’t be throwing out such grand guarantees in the future. I am humbled by the greatness of their friendship and their understanding nature.
Farewell George
June 23, 2008

George Carlin died of a heart attack yesterday and as someone who spoke the politically incorrect thoughts we all have inside, deserves a fitting tribute.
After seeing my first HBO George Carlin special when I was a teenager, I immediately went out and purchased “Brain Droppings”, the bible of off color comedy and rants. Carlin was able to point out the absurdity of human behavior and how we use language that really connected with me. At times he was just a dirty, angry old man, but that was funny too. Take some time to think about George today to remind you to always speak your mind.
“Religion has convinced people that there’s an invisible man…living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a list of ten specific things he doesn’t want you to do. And if you do any of these things, he will send you to a special place, of burning and fire and smoke and torture and anguish for you to live forever, and suffer and burn and scream until the end of time. But he loves you. He loves you and he needs money.” — George Carlin
Tough to find a clean routine from George, but here is a classic one that doesn’t have any swearing!
The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.
We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.
We’ve learned how to make a living, but not a life. We’ve added years to life not life to years.
We’ve been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We’ve done larger things, but not better things.
We’ve cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We’ve conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We’ve learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.
These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete…
Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.
Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.
Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn’t cost a cent.
Remember, to say, “I love you” to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.
Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.
Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.
AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.-George Carlin
Why aren’t you RSSing??
June 19, 2008
Are you constantly coming to this and other sites saying…”Crap! When are they going to put something new up?!”
You would save yourself a lot of trouble if you just started using a feed reader to gather all of the new articles that are posted to your frequented sites.
I used to use BlogLines.com, which is good for a beginner and now use Google Reader, just because it is easy to join to all of the other Google products out there.

Kanye to Cam: Good Mornin!
May 29, 2008

You probably don’t get the reference, but it is my favorite Kanye West song! I am pumped to find out that I am seeing Kanye in Portland next Tuesday for the “Glow in the Dark Tour”. Buzzmonkey Dave will be so jealous!
Happy Memorial Day! Stay Human.
May 26, 2008

I am still enjoying the afterglow of a really fun time at the Michael Franti show at Cuthbert on Saturday night. The real treat was the opener, the Blue Scholars. An MC and a DJ put out some amazing dancable flowing rap with a social conscience. Let’s hope they make the trip down from Seattle more often!
The Coup gave it a good effort, but they couldn’t follow the Scholars. Boots Riley had the disco funk going along with the sweet afro, but the rains came and drove most of us to the beer garden.
Franti came out and gave a great show, and at that point, sometimes the music becomes secondary and you are just have a really good time with your friends, which is what it is all about anyway.
I hope everyone had a great 3 day weekend like I did. Here is a little mellow Franti to start your week off!
It is Serving time!

Get out of my life American Idol, Bachelor, Bachelorette, Dancing with the Stars and all of that crap. I am done with you. However, there is one show that still gets me going.
DA NUH NUH NA…
All of the humor of the Audition round of AI, but way more satisfying. Cute girls too!
Barack Rocked Oregon
May 21, 2008
I’m pretty sure that something like this hasn’t happened in my lifetime. A candidate in a primary elections draws over 75,000 people to hear him say a few words?! How starved is this state and most of this country for some change to erase the 8 horrible years we’ve endured under the worst president ever? How little can we afford to let this election slip away like we have the past two? How badly do we need a president we can trust, a leader we can follow and a country we can be proud of?
I hate to be blunt, but if the elderly, the single-minded, the single-issue, the religious-right, the uneducated, the blind party-line followers or the racist people in this country find a way to let the government continue the elitist, war-mongering, world pillaging ways and don’t embrace someone who could be the greatest leader of our generation in Barack Obama, I might have to move away, to Florence!
For breakfast, lunch or dinner!

The next time you are up in Portland, you have to stop in at Voodoo doughnuts!

Here you can see an example of some of their magical combinations! Yes, that is a bacon on maple bar. Thanks to Kim for the tip! I can’t think of anything I would rather have for breakfast! My friends Mike and Corey brought us some chocolate covered bacon to the Easter Beer Hunt this year and even though I usually don’t eat much chocolate, those were amazing.
Now I am on a mission to find the girl who would want to get married at Voodoo doughnuts. They will marry you and provide doughnuts and coffee for 10 people for only $175. That is my dream woman that will get married over meat covered pastries!
